I wish I could say that I have been amazingly productive since being quarantined, but I am just not that perfect a person. Mostly I have been trying to entertain myself, napping, eating, and Facetiming. At best, I’ve taken time to bake things that I then eat, and I opened my violin case to play 5 min of nonsensical tunes.
As a medical scribe at an outpatient clinic, I have been considered a non-essential employee since March. I’ve done some essential child care here and there, but ultimately each day is the same. It has gotten to the point that I don’t know what day of the week it is anymore. There have been a couple highlights to my downtime though that I have appreciated.
Never Have I Ever
Netflix’s new show Never Have I Ever is an absolutely amazing comedy. It would be perfect for a family with teens to enjoy together or for any quarantine solo to add some comedic relief to their day. I myself watched it with my dad in one hilarious sitting before starting it with my teenaged brother the next day. The show is about first-generation Indian American teen; Devi. She is full of drama and relatable teen angst, with a sincere vulnerability that brings her character to life. The show is definitely insightful, funny, and heartwarming.
Not a day goes by that I fail to challenge someone to a game of cup pong, battleship, or darts over iMessage with the GamePigeon app. Most of my friends are iPhone users, which makes this app an easy way to stay in contact with my friends in a low maintenance and fun way. Anagrams and word hunts are my weakness against Maddie Deer. I’d love to know of similar apps that can be used with Androids since my family is not on the Apple bandwagon. Comment below if you have any apps to try!
I have an old Windows laptop that lives at my dad’s house as a communal gaming laptop that has my Sims 4 on it. With all the time on my hands these days, I have been able to get back into it. It has been so fun! I try to stay away in general since I can get sucked in for hours at a time with cravings to return for a week after emerging from the Sims Vortex. Maddie taught me about Mods which has changed my gameplay to be so much more engaging and appealing!
This is another way to keep in touch with your friends. My sorority fam and I have been having zoom meetings to hang out and this is our go-to game. Thanks to my grand little Caitlyn for introducing it to us. It’s basically Pictionary played online. Try it out with your friends!
I am a huge fan of old school sitcoms full of heartwarming family antics. One of my favorites has always been Full House. I own the entire series. In my search to find other similar TV shows. I have tried some here and there as were available to stream. I’ve always wanted to try The Nanny since it seemed like it would be right up my alley! The first 2 seasons were released on the Roku streaming channel in March and I immediately binge-watched it! Now, I am desperate to watch the rest of the show, but I couldn’t find it streaming or locally. I had to buy the entire DVD set for $70 off eBay from Australia. I am already sure it will be entirely worth it. It’s slightly more mature than Full House with those stellar family values and funny tropes. Have you seen it?
As always, I continue to find solace in romance novels. They are my trusty partners ready to give me a happily ever after when needed. I’ve definitely finished more than 20 novels in the last 6 weeks.
I try to stay away from drinking alone, I don’t think it’s a great choice for me personally. So alcohol now comes in the form of virtual happy hours! Maddie has her wine and I have my vodka while we chat away for hours on Facetime.
And finally, I am super proud that while the rest of my life has gone off the rails; the one thing I have kept up is the cleanliness of my apartment and especially my room. I am not a naturally clean person, but I am taking it one step at a time. Hopefully I can get this new habit to stick.
That’s all that I’ve been doing and I would love to hear about what others are up to. If you want to make a smoothie to jumpstart a new health kick like I plan to; check out my simple smoothie recipe.
